hello!
im in EGYPT right now! <3 its really nice but the weather is really cold too. like 10-16 degrees in the day and at night it will be like below 10 degrees. its two hours behind dubai which means its six hours behind singapore. really hard to tell the time here coz i have no idea how to change the time on my watch. sigh.. btw, will put up some pics once i can. its really cool (: came on the dec 31st and will be going back on the jan 8th. and i will be missing 2 days of school! yay!!! that's the nice part. ((:
spent the new year in egypt. its cool but kinda sad too, left my dad back in Fujairah to spend the new year 07 alone at home, eating instant noodle (not that he minds it), staring in front of the computer screen either doing work or mindless things like bubbles, which he apprently rocks at it coz he's got the highest score and no one has got even close to half of his score. oh well..
DEC 31stdidn't do much. took an afternoon flight which was really boring and i was actually reading a stupid JANE AUSTEN book on the plane - Northanger Abbey. It's actually pretty much better compared to the rest of the books. the airplane food was great. alot better than sq. then just arrived at cairo, went to hotel, eat at hotel and slept.
JAN 1stVisited the Giza Pyramids. 3 of them. went into 1 of them. I WENT INTO A PYRAMID TO SEE A TOMB OF AN ANCIENT PHARO!!! it was really boring though and tiring. coz you had to climb down and up just to get to the one room and nothing else. plus the ceiling was low so you can't stand up straight. Then had a stupid "Sound and Light" show at night which was freezing cold just to hear a stupid voice speak about the pyramids which i've already heard from the guide and see the three pyramids glow in a different colour. really fascinating you know. then took a freakin long and horrible overnight train which completely crushed my good impression of nice euro trains...wahh. :(
JAN 2ndarrived in Luxor and visited the Karnak temple which was the home of AmonRa - their main god. really interesting heiroglyphics on the stones. but most of them were restored thingys so it was really nice not being able to see the stuff.[i'm not making any sense.] then went on to Luxor temple, which was the home of his wife Mut. Nice yeh? went at the night so it was lighted and alot nicer then it would be in the day.
JAN 3rdwent to the valley of the queens today. it was pretty cool. suppose to see the valley of the kings too but coz of my aunt we can't go there as the road is really difficult to walk because its a valley. with rocks and stones that are not on a flat road. the tombs were kinda nice and boring coz there were nothing in it except pictures/heiroglyphics on the wall.
the nicer one was the visit to Queen Hatchepsut's temple. she has a relatively interesting history on how she became the ONLY QUEEN of Egypt. In short, she's the daughter of Tuthmosis I, she married her step-brother Tuthmosis II then when he died, she sent her step-son away to military school then to religious school so that she can take over the throne. then when she was sculpting herself as a pharo in stone in her temple, her step-son came back by the brainwashing of a priest and killed her. and so that's how she died. pretty interesting right?
then did some shopping at a market place thing and took an even worse overnight sleeper train back to Cairo that night. it shouldn't be called sleeper train. no one that is a normal human being can ever sleep in that train. the lights are freakin on the whole night and the people snoring are just so loud and disgusting. urgh. plus we almost missed our stop coz there was no announcement thingy or anything. it was really lousy.
JAN 4th
Learnt about the HOLY FAMILY [Jesus, Mary and Joeseph] today. of their trip in Egypt. like where they rested, what they did etc. it was pretty cool. got fruits from the sycamore tree where the tree sheltered them for three days i think. also visited lots of cathedrals, chruches. but their form of christianity is quite a bit different from the one in singapore. oh well.
did a bit more shopping and went to the same internet place thing that i'm at now but still trying to blog. and just sleep early last night.
JAN 5thwent to the Egypt museum today! it was really really cool. got to see statues of the diff pharos and god and godesses. saw 60 % of the treasures that the king Tutankhamor(sp?) I buried with him in his tomb. he was only a small boy when he became king and died young. omg, he had tons of gold rings and necklaces and stuff. its so crazy. his sarcophagus was really nicely decorated. and had three of them. made of pure gold. :S
interesting part was that i got to see
11 royal mummys! serious. so cool.there was ramses II, his son, and dad. erm, Tuthmosis I,II,III all of them had no hair, a small head, small ears and bucked toothed. RamsesII family had health problems, lots of hair, big nose and ears. it was soooo cool!!! so sad i couldn't take pics. there were others too but couldn't remember their names. oh well.
then went to a cathedral on top of a plateau and was freezing cold. then went shopping at another market, means spending money again..then here. going for a nile cruise in about 13mins. its gonna be freezing.
anyway, my time here is almost up so i should quickly just post this already. will post pics.
